Walking through the Night for MIND

On 12th June, James Bentley (Director), along with friend Karl Donaghy, set out to walk the ‘Leicestershire Round’ for charity!
An extremely tough 106-mile circular walk around the county of Leicestershire, the route passes through a wide variety of scenery from the rugged, rocky area of Charnwood, through the wide river valleys of the Wreake and the Soar and up to the high, windy ridges of East Leicestershire and Rutland.
Although it passes through some of the most picturesque landscapes in Leicestershire, this challenge is not to be taken lightly. It is a demanding and difficult walk, which requires stamina, determination and resilience, something which James and Karl showed in abundance throughout the day (and night!) while they were completing it. Thankfully, the British weather was for once shining down on them (no pun intended) and the dry, and occasionally sunny, conditions made the grueling walk slightly more bearable, enabling James and Karl to complete it in an outstanding 37 hours.
As Charles Bentley & Sons chosen Charity for this year, James chose toraise money for Mind, a charity who provide support and advice to empower anyone experiencing a mental health problem. Mind campaign to improve services, raise awareness and promote understanding of mental health difficulties, and donations are needed now more than ever.
Karl’s chosen charity was CALM (Campaign Against Living Miserably) who are leading a movement against suicide. Relying solely on donations, CALM juggle a variety of different incentives to support as many people as possible, and from March to October 2020 their helpline staff were able to answer 84,954 calls and webchats and prevent 292 suicides.
Initially setting out to raise £2,000 split between these two very worthy charities, to date the pair have raised a whopping £11,500, adding an amazing £5,732.52 to the total Charles Bentley have already donated to Mind!

We are immensely proud of the two of them – now it’s time for a cup of tea and a sit down!
